Who is Recep Tayyip Erdoğan?

Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is a Turkish politician who has served as the President of Turkey since 2014. He was born on February 26, 1954, in Istanbul, Turkey. Erdoğan's political career began in the early 1990s when he became involved in Islamist political movements. He co-founded the Justice and Development Party (AKP) in 2001 and became its leader.

Erdoğan served as the Prime Minister of Turkey from 2003 to 2014, during which time he implemented a series of political and economic reforms that contributed to Turkey's economic growth and stability. He was known for his conservative and Islamist-leaning policies, as well as his strong leadership style.

As President, Erdoğan has been a significant figure in Turkish politics, overseeing a period of political polarization and controversial reforms. His presidency has been marked by a consolidation of power and an increased centralization of authority. Erdoğan has been criticized by some for his handling of civil liberties, media freedom, and human rights issues. His government has faced scrutiny for cracking down on dissent, including arrests of journalists, activists, and opposition figures.

It's important to note that my knowledge cutoff is in September 2021, so there may have been further developments since then.
